The Chatterton Name

Dear family:   This is our Chatterton line going back to our 6th great-grandparents on my chart of information mom gave us which is hanging on my wall.  It shows Mary Chatterton.   In looking through the names on my chart, and in dad's genealogy book I found more information which is listed below the entry immediately following the curly line so we could keep straight the information and relationship to you and me.   Jim

 

CHATTERTON

The Chatterton name traces to the Trafford family in England. In King John’s reign the Trafford family of that time had two son. The elder was given two estates, and the younger, Geoffery was given two others, one of which was called Chadderdon, which was where he got his name.

3. Robert – d. 1120
4. Henry d. 1130
5. Henry d. 1200 at advanced age.
6. Richard married Agnes, daughter of Earl of Chester. He divided land between his two son, Henry and Geoffrey, Henry holding Trafford, Stratford, and lands near Manchester.
7. Geoffrey received manors of Chadderdon and Foxdenton, and assumed name, Chatterton.

Thomas Chaderton of the Lighes, married Joanne Tettlaw, daughter of John or Wernet. His son Laurence Chaderton, D.D. had Margaret Cicily. Jane and George. Cicily married Abraham Johnson of South Luffenham, England. George married Mary Cuerdon, daughter of john of Cuerdon and had children Alice who married Thomas Holt, and Thomas, who married Mary.

In mom's genealogy book it shows Mary Chatterton marrying John Johnson Sr. 2 Nov 1710, who was born in New Haven, Conn. in 1688, whose father was Wouter Jansen, whose father was Jan Wouters Vander Bosch, whose father was Wouter Van Der Bosch, our ninth great-grandfather.

On the chart it lists Mary Chatterton, born 28 April 1692, in New Haven, Conn. who died 21 Sept 1774 in Morristown, NJ.  Her father was John Chatterton who was born 21 Feb. 1668 and died in 1701.  His father was William Chatterton, whose father was Michael Chatterton, who is the 9th great-grandfather on the chart.  

South Luffenham, England. George married Mary Cuerdon, daughter of john of Cuerdon and had children Alice who married Thomas Holt, and Thomas, who married Mary.
